75 Family Alumni Chapter Legacy Scholarship



The recipients shall be full-time or part-time undergraduate students who are direct descendants of those who perished from the airplane crash occurring at the Huntington Airport on November 14, 1970. The award shall be renewed for up to four years (8 semesters) if the recipient maintains good academic standing. 

Recipients must fulfill the obligations of the standard application process and be accepted to Marshall University to be eligible for this scholarship fund and must remain a student in good standing in order to continue to receive the award.  First priority for this fund shall be given to the first-generation descendants (son or daughter) of the 75. 

In the event there are no first-generation recipients who qualify for this fund, recipient criteria shall be expanded to include any direct descendants of the 75 in generations beyond the first generation.

Alpha Delta Kappa Doris C. Miller Scholarship

The recipient of the award shall be a graduate student, who lives in West Virginia, teaches In West Virginia, or who Intends to teach in West Virginia.

First priority shall be given to a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, an association of professional women educators. The association recommends that first consideration also be given to a female student. The recipient must be doing graduate study in history, English, or journalism and preferably working several hours a week.

The Director of the Talent Search Program at Marshall University shall select a recipient, in cooperation with the Office of Student Financial Assistance, who is a graduating high school senior and an active participant in the Heart of Appalachia Talent Search Program. The recipient shall have a minimum GPA of 2.90 and be a first-generation college student who exhibits leadership and community service involvement. The recipient must enroll as a full-time student at Marshall University.





Assure Fund for Chemistry

Aubrey King Thundering Word Forensics Scholarship



The recipients shall be members of the "Thundering Word" Forensics Debate team at Marshall University and:

- Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA
- Have a minimum of four (4) events ready for competition 
- Attend a minimum of four (4) toumaments per semester 
- Commit to participation in the WVIFA state tournament, Pi Kappa Delta National Tournament & the NFA National Tournament
- Display leadership qualities to the rest of the team
- First preference to a student who meets all of the above requirements and is a resident of McDowell County, WV

First preference shall be given to a resident of West Virginia and to someone who wants to teach math.

The recipient(s) shall be a full-time undergraduate, incoming freshman, who has demonstrated experience in or commitment to the Jewish faith and/or community. First preference will be given to a student who demonstrates community involvement and/or academic performance.





Bob Brown Jazz Studies Scholarship

The scholarship recipient shall be a full time junior or senior student actively pursuing a degree in Theatrical Design and Technology with a minimum G.P.A of 2.0.

The intent of this award is to provide for educational expenses of full-time, undergraduate or graduate students majoring in Accounting in the Lewis College of Business who have demonstrated financial need.

The award is renewable for up to a total award of 4 years (8 semesters) for undergraduates, and 2 years (4 semesters) for graduates, if full-time status and a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 are maintained.

Up to three awards shall provide full tuition, fees, and books and be continued for four years/eight semesters or longer if the undergraduate degree requires it as long as high standards are met. Alternatively, the monetary value of a scholarship award may be established and any needs, beyond other awards, received, including dormitory room and board (half of the dormitory costs if living in the community) may be granted.

Eligible students must meet current or future equivalent standards: 28 ACT score and a high school GPA of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale or equivalent. To continue, students must maintain a 3.5 GPA overall or its future equivalent.

This merit-based award provides educational expenses for chemistry majors. They shall be selected as sophomores and receive the award in their junior and senior years.
 
The Department of Chemistry, in cooperation with the Dean of the College of Science and the Office of Student Financial Assistance, shall select the recipient based on academic achievement and enthusiasm for the field of chemistry and renew the award for the senior year pending satisfactory academic progress.

The recipients shall be full-time, undergraduate students in the Lewis College of Business who are residents of West Virginia and in good academic 'standing with a 2.75 GPA or higher and have need per standards of the Office of Student Financial Assistance.

First preference to accounting majors who are residents of Mercer; Monroe, McDowell.or Summers Counties in West Virginia. Second preference to accounting majors from any other county in West Virginia.

Third preference to finance majors who are residents of Mercer, Monroe, McDowell or Summers Counties in West Virginia. Fourth preference to finance majors from any other county in West Virginia.

The recipient will be selected by a committee composed of the Chair of the History Department and members of the departments Graduate Committee, in coordination with the Office of Student Financial Assistance.

 A graduate student of history at Marshall University to finance his or her thesis research. The basis for selection of the recipient will be twofold: (I) a thesis proposal, not to exceed three typewritten pages in length and approved by the student's thesis director, which is deemed worthy of the award by the selection committee; and (2) a short explanation and justification of projected research e)lpenses required to complete the proposed thesis which the selection committee views as being reasonable and necessary. Applicants must submit an approved thesis proposal and an explanation of projected research expenses to the Chair of the History Department no later than the first day of classes after Thanksgiving.

The scholarship will be awarded to an undergraduate student who, upon auditioning, has demonstrated a level of musicianship acceptable to a designated committee of music faculty members. Preference will be given to a string major. If a suitable string candidate is not available, any student of orchestral performance may audition for selection by the committee. It is the expressed intent of the scholarship to financially assist those students of exceptional musical ability and determination who most need the assistance. This aim, however, shall in no way restrict the designated committee of music faculty members from making the award to whomever they determine will be best served by the scholarship. The recipient shall use the scholarship to assist in her or his development as a musician. The scholarship shall be awarded to the student demonstrating the highest level of devotion and work ethic to the competitive team (this may not translate to wins but shows devotion and effort). If determined equally among more than one team member, secondary consideration shall be the student’s support, encouragement, and helpfulness to teammates.


The award shall be renewable up to three additional years (6 semesters) if the recipient maintains good academic standing. The student forfeits the scholarship if they cease to participate on the speech and debate team. However, should the team cease to exist, the student continues to receive the scholarship for the promised term.

One qualified student majoring in Business Administration at Marshall University.
